Such an outstanding amount of toys and cash donations will help bring a little happiness to those children in hospital during this festive period says GMB.
In October 2014, a number of employees from the Tipton office volunteered for our annual Doosan Day of Community Service where Doosan Babcock offices around the UK support local charities. The idea for the Christmas toy run came during that event.
Andrew Corbett, GMB Shop Steward, said “We contacted the local Russell's Hall Hospital who were overwhelmed with our offer of support as they regularly faced a shortage of toys. Even though the hospital had over 40 beds in the children's ward, they were often overlooked for donations in favour of larger organisations. With the support of Doosan Babcock employees and GMB, we managed to raise over £1050 including a large donation of toys for children unfortunate enough to be in hospital over Christmas. We also managed to receive support from local retailers: Game at Wolverhampton, a local toy shop gave huge discounts on game consoles and various toys, and also other large retailers including The Entertainer. We would like to thank all GMB members from Dudley engineering branch and Doosan Babcock employees who have donated generously to make Christmas a wonderful time of the year for the children at Russell’s Hall Hospital.
Russell Farrington, GMB Organiser said “GMB supported this worthy cause with donations of toys which included Xbox and PlayStation games. We would like to congratulate all our members at Doosan Babcock for their hard work in collecting such an outstanding amount of toys and cash donations to help bring a little happiness to those children who are unable to be at home during this festive period.”
